Trip Overview
We put in at the bridge on Hwy 589, 3 miles north of the Lamar County line.
The river was flowing fast under the bridge, and we had generally good deep water most of the time. We scraped bottom a few times. There was about 4 log jams on the trip which we had to walk around or pull the kayaks over.
Overall, this was a great trip, with an overhanging canopy, cool clean water, and relatively little to no development on the creek until the very end. There is a nice 3-4 foot dropoff/ rapid about 3 hours down the river with a great spot beyond to take a break.
We put in at 6:30 pm, and paddled until about 11:00 pm (dark). Take a headlamp at night to get around the logjams.
Overall, a beautiful creek in a quiet setting, and just minutes from Hattiesburg.
