Boston Inner Harbor
Trip Overview
My daughter and I set out from the public boat launch on Terminal St in Charlestown in the shadow of the Tobin Bridge. It was a morning on Labor Day. The ramp is concrete. Parking is free.
We proceeded down the channel then turned right, following the shoreline past a yacht club the the Cassin Young and USS Constitution. We contemplated going through the locks at the Museum of Science but instead chose to stay in the harbor.
The Coast Guard base and it's cutters was next, then the Boston waterfront. Definitely need to be aware of commercial traffic as we had to wait for ferries to leave and enter at Long Wharf.
Fort Point Channel is next bringing us up to the Boston Tea Party Museum. There's a kayak rental place here that might let you take out if you wanted to get a quick bite.
We headed straight back from here. Total time on water was 2 hours. Roughly 6 miles.
Safety Notes
Beware of commercial traffic. Likely heavier on weekdays
Gear Notes
13 ft. Old Town Castine
17 ft. Necky Narpa
Conditions
Calm. Little wind. Only waves were from boat wakes.
