Blue River/Port Andrew to Boscobel

Trip Overview

This trip is only 8 miles and 3 hours of paddle time...but you can be out there ALL day! Get a sense of what the Wisconsin River is like with this intro paddle - we're sure you'll want to come back and spend a night or two on the river after this experience. There's also a 16 mile trip available, single day trip, available.

If your group is 2 or more canoes, you'll drop people and gear at the landing and then the drivers will continue downriver to the WRO shop in Boscobel. WRO will then bring the canoes/kayaks and drivers back up to Blue River to start your trip. This way, you'll finish at your vehicle and can Land-Load-Leave.

Safety Notes

While the river is generally shallow, there are drop-offs. Those who are not strong swimmers should always where their life jacket when their feet are wet.

Gear Notes

WI River Outings rents: sleeping bags, tents, inflatable sleeping mats, camp tables, camp chairs, seat backs and HIGHLY recommends at least a dry bag.

Conditions

The river is wide, so shade can be at a premium. If it's windy, it will generally be in your face since you're heading southwest. You'll learn to read the river quickly to avoid submerged sand bars. The most challenging part of the entire trip is making the turn into the Boscobel landing.
