Trip Overview

The Blue River is a little spot right in the middle of south Kansas City. It runs next to 12+ miles of bike trails, from beginner to intermediate, with everything in between flat and fast to some technical downhill. The Blue River itself is 3 miles and with a good rain one can expect a class I(II)ride.

Watch for strainers and floating debris. Huge strainer debris forms above bridge near take out. Earthen banks cause loose soil and changing conditions as trees are washed away. Urban paddling with a woodsy, secluded feeling.

Some surfing waves are created by pipelines running across the river. Treat these features as you would a low water bridge and avoid the hydraulic.

A great place if you live nearby and only have an hour or two to get out.
