Birch Creek Flanders

Trip Overview

My kids call this 'dream beach' because it was so quiet and peaceful and we had the small beaches to ourselves. Be careful finding the dirt/sand road off Rte 24 where you get to the put-in. I believe it is called Birch Creek Road and it is right at the guard rail on a curve in the road. It looks like you can't take it, but you can. We missed it many times. You can't put-in by the other creek to the east. We did about 2 miles RT around Birch Creek and a portage to a small beach in the middle on the south side of Flanders Bay if the tide is low enough. Fairly easy paddle, choppy on the bay, no boat traffic on the creek and cove end. Great scenery, no facilities. Wildlife = snowy egret, american osytercatcher or black skimmer?, swans and cygnets, least terns dive bombing for fish, sanderlings, crabs, small fish.
