Big Rib River / Rib Falls to Marathon

Trip Overview

Quiet Trip, few houses lots of green trees and root beer colored water. River slightly higher than normal. Put in below County Rd S bridge on North East side. Rib Falls park is on North West corner. Trip was interesting with several rifles and maybe a sub class 1 rapid. A few hairpin turns and some strainers make it interesting. I don't believe this section of the river is actively managed by anyone, but was reasonably open and I never had to portage. Made the trip in a 10 ft Perception kayak. Should be easily manage by a canoe or kayak. Take out was at the park on the North West side of the Hwy 107 bridge North of Marathon City. Look for small wire rope bridge (gauge station?), take out is shortly after on left side. Current is relatively fast at this point and somewhat confused. River was above normal level at 450 cfs and trip took a little less than 2 hours (5 to 6 miles).

Conditions

Rib Falls gauge station at 450 cfs and falling
