Trip Overview

My wife and I decided to take our kayaks out on a beautiful Sunday and try a bayou off of Hwy 115 that we have passed over several times. I am so glad we did, because this was a very beautiful and relaxing paddle.

We put in at the bridge that passes over Big Creek Bayou off of Hwy 115. We put in and went right towards Saline River. There were no alligators on this trip which we found very funny considering how hot it was. We thought certainly we would see at least one sunning himself, but all we seen were plenty of birds (including a red headed woodpecker) and a few turtles.

All in all, it was a very relaxing paddle with beautiful scenery. We paddled about 2 miles before getting to the lake then turned around and headed back. We will certainly go back for this paddle again, but next time we will go to the left and see where it takes us.

This is a very easy paddle and I recommend it to anyone. We will bring our fishing poles next time because there were plenty of fish jumping.

Accommodations:

Store at Landing when you get to the lake.

Fees:

There are no fee's for putting in at bridge on Hwy 115.

Directions:

From Pineville, LA take Hwy 107 south towards Marksville.
Go to Effie and turn left on hwy 115. Go about 4 miles and you will come to the bridge over the bayou. You can drive down under the bridge to launch from either side. Parking under the bridge keeps the vehicle cool too. However, the drive down to the Bayou from the top of the bridge is steep, so wouldn't recommend driving down to the bayou after a heavy rain.
