Bear Creek in Mississippi

Trip Overview

Dennis, MS to Tish. State Park
My fiance and I ran the section of Bear Creek between Dennis and Tishomingo State Park. The put in was a little rough due to heavy rains the last few weeks but nothing that wasn't manageable. The creek itself was at a perfect level. Release was 100cfs from TVA's website. No scraping what so ever and some pretty good shoals to add to the excitement.

There are several spots to stop along the way for lunch and camping (about half-way through the trip). Trip seemed short at only about 2 hours but the water was pretty swift. Only one section about a quarter of a mile that we even had to paddle to keep moving at a steady pace.

The park has done a good job keeping the creek clean over the years and we had no portages or limbo trees.

Accommodations:

None at the put-in.
Tish. State Park offers cabins, camping, hiking, etc.

Fees:

$3 to get into the state park if they charge. They didn't charge us when we told them we were just parking there to take out.

Directions:

From Dennis going north(toward Iuka) take a right on CR 23, left onto CR 57, then left on CR 86.
At the Bear Creek bridge put in is a small road to the left just passed the bridge.

Take out is in the state park at the swinging bridge.
