Trip Overview

Bayou Lafourche at the southern headwaters in Donaldsonville is a beautiful place to launch a water craft. One can be guaranteed to be able to view ducks and geese as the neighborhood people feed both. The bayou begins by having backyards on both sides but soon you are in the woods and swamps of Louisiana. If you start off early in the morning, then you will see nutria and possibly a gator or two. The foliage on the banks of the bayou cannot be beat. It is simply in one describable word-gorgeous.

There are many restaurants and a few beds and breakfasts in the area. The Chamber of Commerce, in Donaldsonville, on Railroad Avenue can give the most current information about this since Donaldsonville is currently undergoing some growth. There are plans for a waterpark and other renovations in the future.
