Trip Overview

This is a little known bayou that runs on the outside the Belle Chase Naval Air Station. I arrived around 8 am planning on kayaking and fishing. I fish here a few times a year from the bank. There is always people fishing from the back here, but I have rarely seen any kayaks or canoes. Motorized boats are not allowed.

I went for a swim after a failed launch. Being new to the sport of kayaking, I learned how not to launch a kayak. After recovering everything but my pride, I got on my way.

After 9am the jets from the base started doing their thing and firing up the engines. I find it awesome to hear them taking off then watching them climb almost strait up till the disappear into the clouds. The wind started picking up, blowing hard out of the south. I decided to paddle out about 2 miles and fish my way back.

Real nice quiet paddle only broken up by the occasional jet landing or taking off. Parking allowed anywhere along the bayou. I prefer to launch closer to the pumping station.
