Trip Overview

Bayou Barbary is lined with cypress, pine and tupelo. It is fairly wide. Water is clean. About 300 yards south of launch site is a bayou to the left which is more secluded. You may encounter a few motorboats on the main bayou. Bayou Barbary empties into the Amite River at Tiger Bluff Landing near Hwy. 22.

Accommodations:

Small store at launch site for snacks. Closed Sundays.

Fees:

May be a $3 launch fee.

Directions:

From Baton Rouge go east on I-12 to Livingston exit and turn right. Go south about 15 miles to intersection of Hwy.444 and turn left. Go about 5+/-miles to landing. From N.O. take I-10 toward B.R. and turn right at Airline Hwy. Take a right at Hwy. 22 at Sorrento, left at Hwy 16 and then right at 444. Barbary Bayou about 12+/- miles on right.

Launches:

Good launch site. Concrete ramp, wooden pier.
