Trip Overview

The Atchafalaya Basin is probably one of the most beautiful places to kayak in Louisiana. It is loaded with wild life; Alligators, Nutria, Beaver, and numerous species of water fowl just to name a few. There are large groves of cypress trees and small islets everywhere. Fishermen are abundant but in a kayak you can get to places that most of them won't go in a Bass Boat.

I put in at McGee's landing on several of my trips. The basin is so large that there are numerous launch sites.

Accommodations:

Cabins and House boats as well as small Motels are all available in the area. There are several restaurants in the area, including one at McGee's Landing.

Fees:

Launch fee was $4.00.
