Around Pulau Aman

Trip Overview

Head N from the jetty, then NW towards the floating aquaculture structures to get away from the ferry route. From the aquaculture head W to the gap between the two islands (Aman and Gudung). One might have to portage across the sand bar between the islands at low tide, but I could just get through with a scrape. Scenic fishing village on the W coast of Pulau Aman. Lots of fishermen along the shore. After rounding the S point of the island, found a nice gravel beach on the E shore for a picnic. Hiking trail up the hill, but did not hike. Completed the island round (mind the shallows just S of the pier), then retraced the channel crossing with the aquaculture as the intermediate destination. Total trip time 3 hours including picnic.

Safety Notes

Watch out for small craft motor boat traffic in the channel: ferry, fishing boats. No large vessels, though.

Gear Notes

Keep it light and open top, it is gonna be hot. The Oru Beach folding kayak was just right for this one.

Conditions

Tropical weather. Afternoon thunderstorms always possible.

Portage Notes

Sand bar between Pulau Aman and Pulau Gudung may get exposed at low tide.
