Antelope Canyon - Lake Powell
Trip Overview
Launched at Antelope Point on Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and paddled down the lake to Antelope Canyon. Spectacular cliffs! The morning light made some amazing reflections from the water on the cliff sides. Landed at a small beach and hiked up the slot canyon for half mile through fantastic scenery. There were a few other kayakers hiking there too. One photo shows what happens when the camera is set too far away for the old guy to run and get in the picture. Saw a raven’s nest with two young chicks. Got back in the kayak and paddled across the channel to Antelope Island then back.
Safety Notes
There are large tour boats that motor into Antelope Canyon. They blow their horn to warn boaters when they’re rounding tight corners in the canyon. Best to stay out of mid channel as other power boats and jet-skiers head back there too.
