1st 2018 Cedar Creek Paddle

Trip Overview

Put in at the Tonkel Rd bridge and paddled to S.R. 1 (Leo Rd) - 5 mile run down Cedar Creek. About 1.5 miles down stream I encountered a major log jam. Debated on a portage, but after walking around on the banks I found a path through. I'll bring a saw with me on this run next time to clear a better path for others to make it through. This is a fairly large jam with multiple logs against a downed tree across the entire creek. After this point it is a fairly smooth ride while reading the water for submerged logs and the occasional large rock. Water level was perfect as I've paddled this section many times in the past and managed to get stuck on the rocks in the shallow sections, but not this trip. Saw my first Beaver in the water while paddling and then saw a second about a half mile further down. Muskrats on the shore along with Turkey and Deer. Also saw more Ducks and Kingfishers than I could count, especially since I may have seen the same ones a few times since the Ducks tend to fly downstream rather than up.

Safety Notes

Use caution at the log jam as the water really pushes you into the branches. Be prepared to get your head down as far a possible to get through
