- Warrandyte Bridge
Description
Various spots to launch near the intersection of Yarra St and Kangaroo Ground-Warrandyte Rd Bridge. Popular place to play in the small rapids. Small carpark and has public toilet facilities. This launch point has a variety of food shops within walking distance. Water level here can be fairly shallow. Good end location for a one way trip from up river, such as from Jumping Creek Reserve, or as I did, a start point for a one way trip to Pound Bend Reserve. Pound Bend is approximately 7km down river from the Warrandyte bridge. The car shuffle for a one way trip to Pound Bend is just under 3km, less than a 5 minute drive. Heading down river you will come across several small rapids, as well as large sections of slow moving water. Last trip to Pound Bend water level was at 0.55m, and we completed the trip in 9ft recreational kayaks, in a VERY leisurely time of 2 hours (expect some scrapes and bumps at 0.55m). Avoid travelling through the Pound Bend tunnel unless you know what you are doing, and familiar with the exit. Pound Bend Reserve is a very popular swimming spot during summer.
