Lake Solano

Winters, US

Description

Beautiful River! There is parking across the street from this launch. Entry is a bit tricky. One must walk down 1 of 2 embankment to get to the river. The path not by the bench is best. Some kind soul put carpet down so it's easier to walk on this ~20' steep slope. It's flat water for 2-3 miles (guessing here), then one hits some mild rapids. We did an up and back in about 2h. If you want to add to the trip going south, to the dam, could add to the experience. Saw plenty of waterfowl and even spotted a river otter (wow!). Water was clear. Fish a plenty. There are a few places one could pull out. One suggestion: wear water shoes or sandals that have a back to them.

Yes, you will find underwater grasses, turtles, trout and gentle currents. You will not find hordes of people, rude park staff or dirty picnic areas or restrooms. This is a hidden gem, for $6.00 day fee. Only 7 miles from the town of Winters.
