Description

Lake Skadar is the largest lake in the Balkans and is located on the border of Montenegro & Albania. It is a dynamic body of water, with its surface area and water level varying greatly throughout the year, due to the high number of lake-bottom springs as well as multiple river inflows. It drains into the nearby Adriatic Sea, features several historical buildings on its southern shores and small islands, and is home to a wide variety of freshwater biodiversity and birds. Lake Skadar has earned National Park status in Montenegro and Managed Nature Reserve status in Albania.
