Iroquois NWR - Knowlesville Rd.

Oak Orchard Creek - Oakfield, US

Description

Unimproved launch site is mostly gravel. Oak Orchard Creek starts off wide but can become rather narrow and shallow in certain areas before opening up again. Amazing wildlife viewing opportunities as you paddle through Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge. Creek takes you west to Sour Springs Road launch site. There are several places along the creek where it may be difficult to navigate around large fallen trees, and at least one tree where you need to get out and haul your kayak over it. Going back upstream to Knowlesville Rd launch site can be challenging at times, but doable. Recommend going earlier in kayak season, as water levels may be too low by August/September to paddle.
