Cedar Ridge - Huron Meadows Metro Park

Huron River - Hamburg, US

Description

This park is part of the Huron Clinton Metropark Authority, with daily entrance fee or annual pass. There is a put-in/take out on the Huron River at the Cedar Ridge picnic area with a 150 yard carry to the parking lot and heated restrooms. This is the second decent take-out downstream from Island Lake, after the McCabe Rd. bridge. The bridge is closed as of 2019 but you could still park there on the west approach. Downed trees can make the trip from Island Lake challenging but the experience is surprisingly close to a trip "up north". The next put in-take out downstream is the DNR boat launch at portage lake. The river seldom freezes here due to a wintertime diversion pipe that pulls mid-depth warmer water from Kent Lake about 12 miles upstream; the river is usually clear of ice until it gets to a wide marshy area near Ore Lake, just downstream from the park.
