Description
The Anacostia River has been called "the most polluted river in the United States". It typically fails its water quality report card. Fecal coliform bacteria are a continual problem and there is a crazy amount of trash. That said I paddle on the Anacostia about 100 times/year and I am often surprised at how beautiful the river is and how much wildlife I see. The river is tidal here which means things are always changing. You can go upstream or downstream from Bladensburg Waterfront Park. There are also connected waters to explore: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Dueling Creek, Beaverdam Creek, etc. Bring a trash bag and fill it up. The staff at Bladensburg Waterfront Park have been rock stars when it comes to disposing of collected river trash.
