I've paddled solo canoes for over 30 years. This is my first Northstar canoe. I would not suggest it as an entry level solo canoe. It requires a more experience paddler, but it becomes more enjoyable as you spend more time on the water. Initial stability takes a while to get used to, but the secondary stability is excellent. I'm in my 60's now so a lightweight canoe is a joy to car top and portage. It handles waves well and paddles really well when loaded for a trip. This is my second kevlar canoe, but first one without a gel coat so it's not as stiff. I'm used to loading and unloading in the water so it's no big deal. I use a single blade paddle and find it tracks well with a j stroke. Overall I'm very pleased with it.
