We are experienced kayakers and wanted a SOT that could be used by friends at our lake cabin, got this as the price was right and it seemed fun. The Nalu 12.5 is a bit heavy compared to the most lightweight foam SUP boards, about double the weight - but the comparison is not entirely fair. You pretty much get a SOT kayak as a bonus when you buy this SUP. There are other hybrid roto-molded boards out there with (small) wheels on that might be better if you have a longer trip to the water over a smooth surface. Ocean Kayak is one of the better-known SOT kayak makers, possibly the originator of the form, definitely a trusted manufacturer, very popular with community boathouses and rental companies in my area. I think their products are generally well designed and reliable, which is why we chose the Nalu 12.5. It has performed pretty much as expected so far, and we are not disappointed.
Pros
Benefits of a SOT kayak including hatch and (available) seat.
Cons
Roto-molded SOT kayaks are heavy. For the price, this is to be expected.
Usage
Flatwater, lake play
