Do not purchase a Ukai…

Submitted by: paddler2174750 on 7/11/2022

Do not purchase a Ukai Kayak. I purchased a Ukai Freedom kayak second hand in 2018. It had never been used. It was initially easy to snap together. It has been stored in dry, indoor conditions. However each season it has become more difficult to snap together and this is because the seals have become increasingly warped. Currently this four year old kayak is not usable. I contacted the company asking if I could pay to have the seals replaced. I was told no and that I should just purchase a new kayak. There was no interest on the part of the Ukai company in helping me find any solution. I was just told to consider this still fairly new (and very carefully stored) kayak a loss. Deal with a more customer friendly company, people.

This is a great option for…

This is a great option for folks who want a full size ocean going kayak and are short of space and/or people who live in condos as a full size kayak can't fit in an elevator. This one comes in 3 pieces and is easy to put together, with a little practice. It is surprisingly stable and sturdy and tracks well. I have tried other compactable kayaks and the this one is no different than a regular ocean going kayak. It is durable and heavy enough where you won't get tossed around like the inflatable and origami foldable ones. Also it's muck easier to get back in if you get dumped or decide to go for a dip. I felt very safe with it out on the open ocean. I have taken it camping and was able to fit all my camping gear and my dog. The one drawback is that you may have to work a little harder to keep up to your friends in regular kayaks as it's a little draggy due to the adjoining pieces but not significantly so
