Great Kayak that will last!
I've had this kayak over 3 years now. Despite it's mainly saltwater use and storage outside (covered) it has remained in excellent shape. Recently contacted them to upgrade to the stadium seat and customer service was as great as the day I bought it. Kayak is stable enough to throw a cast net from and comes with just about every fishing kayak feature you could want. If I ever had to buy again I would... but dont think I ever will!

Been using it a little over…
Been using it a little over a year now, I could not any happier than I am with it. Waiting on the new smaller version rumored to be available soon. The customer service is good as well: I wore out the seat, I called to purchase a new one, but they just sent out another cover. I put it on the frame, GOOD as new.

The tracking is as straight as an arrow with the rudder to assist in drifting! And I also get a lot of good looks from everyone on tourney day!

Ok so here is the scoop. I have been looking at yaks for a long time trying to get the funds up to get one. I ran across the stingray xl around a year and a half ago and I must say it is the most feature rich yak for its price point money can buy. I love the thing and with a huge weight capacity I don't care if you are santa clause you will have room to pack everything including the kitchen sink and still float. If you are a owner please check out the owners page in Facebook or if you know someone who wants a great yak that won't break the bank tell them to check eddy-gear out. I wanted for under a $1000 but finally found Eddy Gear. I was amazed at all you get for the price.
I am not a fisherman and bought my Stingray solely to paddle and explore local waterways. I've had it since September and haven't been a bit disappointed with it. I did a lot of research before buying and knew all the features I was looking for in a boat. I began to give up hope that I could find everything I wanted for under a $1000 but finally found Eddy Gear. I was amazed at all you get for the price. Last weekend was the ultimate test. I did an overnight camping trip 8 miles offshore. The boat handled like a champ. Very stable. Great tracking even with a 10 to 15 knot cross wind, especially with the rudder. TONS of storage. I could have camped for a week. The boat is decently fast on the water for it's size. It was great! On the way out and back, I hit some decent size chop (3 & 4 foot breaking swells) but the stingray took it all in stride. On the return trip, I had a lot of waves breaking on the deck and after paddling for three and a half hours found just a little bit of water in the front hatch. For as much water as was hitting the deck, it held up great.
If I had one complaint it's the boat's weight. It's a bit on the difficult side (but not impossible) to get the boat on and off the car solo but it's a 13 foot well-made boat so some weight is to be expected. Maybe I just need to paddle more and build up some muscles.
All in all, a great boat for the price!

First time hearing about this brand was just a couple weeks ago from my close friends at Tallyyakkers of Tallahassee, Florida.
I got the opportunity to demo it yesterday and I must say, it has really impressed me as far as stability, tracking and paddling.
The river I was on usually had a 7-9 mph flow, drifting down the steering rudder kept me straight with minor adjustments and made it extremely easy to fish standing up.
I mostly Bass fish so I have to have a good point of view and casting room to Flip, pitch and roll cast under low lays and docks. The stability was easily comparable to most high dollar brand kayaks on the market. I mostly standup and paddle while Bass fishing so the ability to stand for long periods of time is critical to my fishing abilities.
Now for the paddle back up river….. EASY with the current at the normal speeds and a north wind blowing in my face, I was easily able to make my way back to the launch point with ease. I am excited to see how the Stingray will do on an early morning with no wind on a local lake I fish.
To complete this review, this will be the next kayak I own and I look forward to fishing from this boat more frequently in the near future.

I have been back and forth for a while now looking and trying to decide what kayak to get that does not cost a fortune and for me has a good stable ride with the higher weight capacity. A good friend of mine actually messaged me about Eddy Gear and i really liked the look and the specs… wide stance, high weight capacity and a lot of extra features like the rutter,pole holders, and the dry stow away compartments. I am a good size guy.. 6'1 275lbs and i didnt flip on accident.. now i did test the limits and i will say i was able to sit on the side with my legs hanging off, i did stand up but was a lil shaky for me, and what matters most i was able to get into the yak when i was NOT able to touch bottom.. i also have to say i delt with Donnie N. In Pensacola Florida and he was very helpful and knowledgeable about everything to do with the yak. I highly recommend the yak and dealing with Donnie if you live in the Panhandle of Florida, you will NOT be disappointed!!

This will be my second Eddy kayak. Loved the first one
This will be my second Eddy kayak. Loved the first one, but gave it to my son because it was rather difficult to get into following hip surgery. I'm closing in on 84 years young in December and miss fishing from the kayak even though the first one it wasn't rigged for fishing. I'm hoping your (XL)kayak will be easier to get onto and look forward to yak fishing again.

I purchased this yak off of craigslist. I live in Florida and have never owned a kayak, but Jerry was very knowledgeable and helped me very much with the purchase of the yak as 3 weeks earlier I said I would take one and he kept in contact with me. I love fishing and because of all the features and price is why I purchased but as someone else said in their review, You might want to buy one before everyone finds out what a great deal they are and up the price!!! I looked at many yaks and the price and stability are the reason I chose this one. And as said from others I am by no means related to anyone making or selling this yak. I just thought it was a good deal and had phenomenal reviews so thank you guys!Thank you again eddy gear and could you do me a favor and send a catalog or link for me to purchase another mount rod holder? Thanks you for the customer service you guys and gals give!!! I'm will always pay more for something, if the service warrants it!! Have to share my story with you. I just purchased the Stingray XL Kayak from you guys and it started with Jerry King in Orlando who was so helpful with making my decision to purchase the Stingray Xl. Drove from Crystal River Florida to Atlanta to pickup the Kayak so I could take my Ten year old grandson on the Rainbow River. He said it was one of the most alsom time he had ever had. The Kayak perform on par with the $3,000 plus unit I had considered. All I. First I want to say that I have not taken this kayak on the water yet, however I will say that I have been on a kayak (one made for the ocean) in different rivers, lakes and as far as 2 miles offshore in palm beach county and upon my first impression as I unpackaged (This thing is very well packaged) the Stingray XL was this thing looks amazing, it is VERY well made. I have no doubt it will be able to do what I ask of it. It comes just as stated in the description, everything you need on your kayak to fish, even a rudder for the times your in a following sea. I would definitely purchase one before the price increases. I am in no way associated with the people involved in Eddy Gear but have spoke with Bob Sutton who was very helpful. He is a great guy and very helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend. I have to get a couple miles offshore before I would say to buy one for sure but looking at it leaves me NO DOUBT that it will be just fine maybe even better than my (kayak made for offshore angling).

Finally got home to try out my new and first kayak. My first impression was man that thing is big!! But I'm glad I had plenty of storage for all my fishing gear and plenty of room left for other stuff. Didn't have any problem with stability at all rudder is awesome plenty of leg room for taller men. I'm 6 foot and had to move my foot rest up. The only thing I wish it had was more back support maybe if the seat sat deeper in the hull but this is my first kayak so compared to others it might have a lot. Fished on the Etowah river today for 8 hours and had a blast. Got several complements on the kayak. Will recommend to all my friends.

We love our kayaks!!!!! We've had them about a month or so. The guys were great getting them to us actually came in personal vehicle because the yaks were on back order. Sorry it took so long to post a review but we've been everywhere. Gone camping with them on lakes awesome stability and control. Been in the gulf and a couple of bays and rivers. Again great control. Able to stand up in them getting in and out is very easy both from a pier/dock or from the shore or lake side. We've fished in them excellent for hauling gear. Also just paddling around we went 6 miles today in gulf shores area. Saw dolphin stingrays you name it awesome! Absolutely recommend for whatever type of kayaking you want to do.

You won't get more kayak for the money. Stable, plenty of storage and glides on through the water. I looked at countless kayaks and the Stingray XL won out over the Vibe Sea Ghost and Sowega Warrior. The D-Rings work great for a anchor trolley and the installed mounting holes are perfect for zag zag cleats and other accessories. This kayak gives you more bang for the buck. I would buy it again. Very pleased and highly recommend.

This kayak is STABLE. I have not been on a Kayak in 5 years, and already within the first 10 minutes, I was comfortable enough to stand up and paddle like it was a stand up paddle board, in medium chop. I can list and lean pretty drastic either way, and don't feel tippy at all. I was able to climb up to the front and open and dig into the day hatch and didn't feel unstable at all. I can turn behind me, grab things from my crate and bags, without feeling unsecured, and furthermore, sitting side saddle is pretty comfy. I was in swells near some boat traffic, and with all the tipping and rocking, the boat handled it great.

First of all, I would like to personally thank the staff at Eddy Gear, and especially Sean, for their outstanding customer service. I ordered the XL with Comfort Max seat and a rudder and could not be happier with my choice. I am 64 years old and the kayak I chose is light enough to hand carrying, is extremely stabile and makes a great fishing platform. The kayak arrived with a broken front hatch latch. It was packaged well, but somewhere between Georgia and NJ someone dropped it.:( Anyway, a quick call to Eddy Gear and a new latch was on the way! Great customer service! Free shipping, all the included accessories and no tax sealed the deal. If you are in the market for a fishing kayak, the Stingray XL is the way to go, Happy fishing!

What a Find!
What a find! These guys know their stuff and offer great deals on outdoor gear. These guys are second to none, and they are very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended! I called after hours got Jerry on phone while he was at his son's football practice, but he took the time to talk to me and answer my questions. Finally customer service!!!!!!

Definitely one of the best kayaks out there for lakes, and offshore fishing. The upgraded seat is super comfortable for all day paddling, tons of storage. Working with them directly was awesome. Everyone was super friendly. The kayak is fantastic a lot more stability than I originally thought.

Great kayak and also my first. I'm 275, so I love the stability. I've already installed lots of extras. Have had it out night fishing all night and the seat felt great. I've had back surgery and had no issues sitting in this thing for hours! About to take her on the first saltwater trip, fishing for redfish and flounder. Pretty excited about that! I love the fact that it has a lot of installed accessory mount locations and a transducer mount already installed. Unless you're going to drop some serious cash on a Hobie, I think this is a great boat for the $ I paid! Very happy with the color too, just found out they are making a camo one I wish I had that one though. Plan to do some duck hunting so this should serve me well!

I'd like to start off by saying that the kayak itself is amazing. I live in Minnesota so I have about 350 lakes to choose from in a 75 mile radius. I took this kayak out today in some pretty choppy water, and easily 25-30 mph gusts at times. This thing tracked the water easily, and didn't get knocked around too much when I found my spot to fish. I also managed to get back to the landing i launched from easily, and they was with the wind blowing at me not for me. I also love how big the bungee well is for storage, and the design of the front dry hatch. A plus is that they included scupper holes in the bungee well that were designed in mind to take transducers for a fish finder. Kayaking is a sport that will use snap d links and this thing has plenty of spots for them (I personally attached an anchor system, and the seat too). The kayak is really stable so don't worry so much about tipping, but I would find where the tipping point is. Do this on a warm day or a cold one if you have the proper gear, and practice getting back into it. I'm not sure if this kayak is stable enough to stand on, but I personally would probably never try it. This isn't the sexiest looking kayak, but the pattern is attractive and best of all generally reflects heat for hot days. . The boat is rated for over 550 pounds of weight (you+gear), (I weigh 260 pounds and generally bring about 20 lbs of gear if even that) so this is great. I like the fact that it comes with all the scupper plugs, paddle, rudder and adjustable rod holder, that some companies want you to buy separately. I also like how they included flush fishing rod holders. It saved me from buying about 25-50 dollars worth of parts to get my own and then the time to install. I do wish the holders were installed a bit more forward. It can be awkward trying to put your rod, net, or whatever back when you are done.
To review, this Kayak is fast, stable, and tracks well. You get some cool angler in mind features, and lots of storage. The negatives are Ticky tacky things, like the wishing the supplied fishing rod holders were moved up a bit, or the placement of the middle scupper hole not being under your butt. That being said this is a wonderful kayak in the kayak sense (fast, tracks well, while for its size, and stable), and amazing in the general fishing sense(transducer mount, fishing rod holder, tackle box straps). This thing also isn't too heavy to carry around with one person.

I did some research to find the perfect boat for me, and the Stingray is it! My intended use is flat-water paddling and fishing. It's light enough for me to lift onto my car's roof-rack, where I put it cockpit up, then flip it upside-down and cinch with two web straps. takes about five minutes .It's wide enough for good stability, which is aided by the hard chines and bottom design. it doesn't like to turn. What it wants to do is go straight, and it does a great job of it, even directly into a stiff breeze. A few strokes gets her going at a good clip. The front storage compartment, while not totally waterproof, is pretty much so, and can be reached while in the boat. the cockpit opening is enormous, and makes it very easy to enter and exit. The foot pegs are easily adjustable without reaching.This isn't a whitewater boat, and it does have the capacity for a long camping trip, but I use it for recreating on the lake or reservoir, and doing a little fishing, it's near-perfect.

This a great Kayak. Plenty of room for storage, and handles well. So far I've taken this boat out on smooth water and it glides right along, making good distance. I was able to easily pack three days worth of camping supplies for myself only using the storage inside the boat and no deck space used.
Got the new seat, and it is VERY comfortable, now I definitely recommend to any one looking for a SOT, to look at this yak; GREAT.
