I’ve been searching for the…

Submitted by: guest-paddler on 12/27/2023

I’ve been searching for the perfect portable watercraft for quite some time and I think I may have found it with the MyCanoe Duo 2. Received it in fall 2022 but wasn’t able to take it out until March 2023 while on an RV vacation down in Arizona. Set up was a bit of a challenge, but I was just using the written instructions and hadn’t watched the video, so mostly my fault. Once assembled the middle webbing provided a nice support to portage the boat the 100 m to the water. Well balanced and easy to get up on the shoulders, I can imagine portaging this boat quite easily over mid-distances.

Paddling the boat was easy to adjust to. The seats are quite low to the bottom, and no space under them, so you can’t really kneel to alleviate butt soreness, but the seats were quite comfortable, and with one or both legs stretched out I was able to easily solo the duo using both a kayak paddle and canoe paddle. Boat tracked well even in the wind. I was soloing it with my 12 lbs dog sitting in front of me, and found the boat quite well balanced with that little bit of ballast in front. Wind did push the bow around a bit, but it wasn’t any more than any other canoe solo.

It’s certainly not the fastest boat out there, but it was very stable and easy to get in and out of even while standing briefly in the middle. Very cool design that folds up relatively small. It’s def not something that can be easily hiked around as even when all folded, it’s quite bulky and weighs 42 lbs. But for small vehicle or RV transport, it’s brilliant! I wish they had included a carrying bag with the boat as packing it up and then moving it around is kinda strange. The main boat folds up and then slides inside the floorboard piece with the seats… so the folded up package isn’t that stable. The main hull can slide out of the package and the detachable gunnels also will slide out all over the place too. Ideally, there would be a carry case to keep all this together. But if you’re just going car to boat, it’s fine.

I’ve had quite a few portable boats and this one is by far the best in terms of packability, usability, and stability. I’ve also got the origami kayak Oru Inlet, which is the same kind of folding design, much lighter at 23 lbs, and can fit and be carried in a backpack. However, it’s quite cramped and does not do well in waves. It’s also a much “wetter” boat. The MyCanoe Duo is superior in every way, but is larger and heavier when packed up. I’ve also paddled pack rafts like the Alpaca Mule which are the ultimate for packability, but less functional as a watercraft for speed and comfort.

in summary, the Duo is an amazing addition to the boat quiver and will be my go-to boat for RVing and road trips. The pup also enjoys paddling in it and I imagine that it would also be a great boat for two ppl. Not sure about durability, but only time will tell.

Happy paddling!

We purchased our duo last month and took it out for the first time on the lake. It was better than we expected. Assembly was fun. Very comfortable and stable. Kids LOVE it.

I have been canoeing for 60 years, we have a 16 foot fiberglass canoe and a 15.5 foor My Canoe for our motorhome. The My Canoe is the most unstable water craft I have ever been on, It was like putting a saddle on a cork and trying to stay upright. The origamy part is a good idea. the folding was a bit of a challenge, after a few tries it got a lot easier. We are very upset because of the false advertizing. What a waste of money.

Submitted by: paddler1646597 on 8/16/2021

Around August 1st, I put $500+ deposit on a mycanoe with a September ship date. 2 days later, I decide to cancel my order. The Refund Policy states that there is a 2.9-3.9% processing fee of the amount paid for unshipped orders. It took about 10 days for mycanoe to contact me regarding my cancellation request. Their customer service informed me that cancellation of the deposit would incur a $100 fee plus a 3.9-4.9% (note the higher precent) processing fee. I was sent their FAQ section to review this policy. I don't know when this FAQ section was added to their website, but on August 11, the date of the customer service email, their refund policy stated exactly what I have written above. No $100 fee and the lower percentage rate. Their communication turnaround time is dreadful (I tried calling too) and the company does not play by the rules of contracts.

Good Job

Submitted by: Frank-Casey on 3/5/2017

We received an early adopter discount. Package arrived in a good condition in 3 days. There is a main case and a bag for parts. The canoe material looked exactly same as pictures on their site. We’ve watched the assembly video a few times while waiting for the shipment, thus began to set up without looking the manual. It took about 25 minutes for my wife and me to set it up. Unfold was a breeze. Took it to a lake nearby here in Atlanta next day and made it in 15 mins (was a lot easy second time). Every single person stopped by!

I am not an experienced paddler so not sure how it compares, but canoe looks & moves great and feels really sturdy. All the materials appear to be good quality and made with high standards, made in US. I will need to see how it holds over time, but considering its portability and convenience (and fun to show off!), I would rate it 5 stars. Good job.

Spectacular experience

Submitted by: Murali on 3/2/2017

I've decided to get Mycanoe after a ton of research between kayak and canoe. Assembling, dis-assembling the canoe was a breeze. Not bad at all. Carrying it was not an issue. Assembling it myself took around 35 minutes first time, 20 minutes second time. It should get better with more practice. Very well built with a lot of thoughts into it. I am never going to believe any of those folks who said canoe is difficult to paddle - buy a kayak etc - it was so easy and natural. The first time I took it, I was so into it, that I paddled for 7 miles on the Colorado river here in Austin, Texas. Awesome experience! Highly recommend it. No need to worry about storage in your garage, how to carry it on the car and transport it from the car to the water if you are all alone. Best part is you can enjoy it with your family as it can seat 4 easily and your pet. Best purchase ever!
