The quantum is a excellent…

The quantum is a excellent all round boat, that is equally at home in big water or steep creeks. I have used this boat for the past 9 years in all conditions. The exagerated rocker of this boat will virtually eliminate verical pins, making this boat an excellant choice for steep technical drops. This boat will always surface nose up, never tail up. The long length and pointed nose punches through large holes with ease. Once enough skill is developed to really get this boat on edge, it will turn on a dime, faster even than modern short play boats. This boat is designed for down river running or pure surfing, its length makes it very fast with quick acceleration, a must for steep creeks. This boat is best for intermediate to advanced paddlers as it feels very tippy and squirly to beginners. Once used to this boat, you will feel comfortable in all water conditions.

This Kayak was designed for…

This Kayak was designed for surfing and is great in the river. It is the toughest boat that I've paddled- crosslinked poly, strongly reinforced internally. It is very responsive due to its shape (like a slalom kayak) and the seat trim feature which allows trimming the boat for the weight of the paddler and stored gear. This makes it customizable for each paddler. It has good internal storage for its size & shape. It had been used in the Kern river and is surprisingly fast and quick despite being longer than boats that you would think would be more maneuverable.

I would not recommend this boat for a beginner as its speed/maneuverability features make it a little tippy until you get used to it. Also the keyhole is relatively small compared to cruising boats and beginner boats. It tracks well in any current but would not be a good tracking boat in very calm, currentless water.

I rate this boat highly because of its toughness, responsiveness and built in design features such as the seat trim, drain setup etc. It would probably rate higher if its initial stability was better and the keyhole was larger, which would make it a better boat for a beginner. Overall I think that it's a great boat for the challenges of the surf or the river.
