The Raid I is characterized…

The Raid I is characterized by very goodl hull quality, competitive price, tremendous stability and seaworthiness, and quirky French design. The hypalon hull is comparable to a Klepper hull in quality and construction, but the fame is very different. Made up of only four assemblies and one loose rib, it goes together very quickly with practice, but to the first timer it appears to be a nothing so much as a tangled bundle of sticks. No matter, the assembled boat is about as rigid as a Klepper, and there's no more stable full-size folding boat on the market. The low profile and wide sponsons make it just about impossible to tip without adding much drag. The inflatable seat and backrest are about the most comfortable things you'll find in any kayak. It's light (55 lbs), feels alive in the water, packs easily in two bags with shoulder straps, and the price is perhaps half that of a similarly outfitted Klepper. A nice boat.
