Yellow River Flowage - Spooner WI

Trip Overview

This was a lovely 2-3hr paddle in Spooner MN on the Yellow River Flowage!... up until we hit a section of river that was swampy and completely covered with tall thick reeds. At this point there was no clear path in this section of the river and it was very challenging to have to paddle through tough thick reeds. But we did it! That section comes right after 'Whisky Creek". It was our plan to paddle up it to the road, but it was blocked by a beaver dam.

I would recommend getting out at the point where you have to portage over Tozer Lake Road.

Launched at the DNR Hatchery in Spooner just below the dam.

Safety Notes

Where long pants as thought the one portage is not long, it is through grasses that cut up your legs.

Conditions

A big Section past whisky Creek we were paddling through THICK swamp reeds. What a mess and hard to do!

Portage Notes

Portage 1 is going over a road.

Portage 2 is through long grass that cuts up your legs if not covered. Short portage around a downed tree that covers width of the river.
