Trip Overview

I had a nice canoe trip just me and my boys in the canoe. We dropped in at the park off Elizabeth rd west of Wood Dale rd. and ended the trip at Eldridge park in Elmhurst. The trip is a little over 8 miles and took us about 5 hours to complete. There were a few tight spots from trees blocking most of the river but we got through them with out having to cut anything out of our way or portage around. the river was a little low that day and a couple spots we did have to get out and pull the boat across. Also when you get into elmhurst and you see the damn sign it is crossable but you might want to get out and pull the boat over. We didn't and got stuck on the damn. Then while i was standing on the damn trying to get the boat over with both boys inside, I tipped the canoe and everybody went for a little swim.

Conditions

water levels were on the low side hadn't rained in over a week

Portage Notes

just had to get out and pull the canoe through a few shallow spots
