Trip Overview
Upper Wisconsin River (Hwy 45 to Hwy K bridge)
I did the trip in 5 hours 25 minutes. There are 4 sieves (tree falls or debris across the entire river). Two of them I was able to shimmy over without exiting, and one was high enough to limbo under. One I had to beach the kayak in the grass near the top of the tree without getting wet, I pulled the kayak over the obstruction and got right back in just past it.
There were several spots down the river where it became very shallow, and I had to exit and walk 50 feet or so. I also exited an stretched at a canoe only campsite that is operated by Vilas county (permit required for overnight stay). Easy in and out.
Accommodations:
there is a small shelter, fire ring, charcoal grill and out house (M/F) at the vilas county canoe camp site
Fees:
Only if you choose to camp over night on the designated site
Directions:
Hwy 45 in Land O Lakes, WI put in, and the exit is at Hwy K about a block east of 45 in Conover.
