White River in Indiana

Trip Overview

I took this kayak trip with my 19 year old son & my 12 year old son and we had mixed feelings about it. The trip took 3 total hours and we saw many Herons, turtles, and fish jumping - very nice. We stopped on a rock/sand bar and skipped stones and worked our way down the river.

The hard part about this section of the White River is the wind is in your face almost the whole way with very little current. So, if you aren't paddling the entire time, it's dead time for my 12 year old. However, we had a great time and look forward to truing a northern section next weekend.

We put in at across from Forest Park at the public boat landing in Noblesville, IN just north of Hwy. 32 and traveled approximately 3 hours to the River Road Park just south of 126th St in Carmel, IN where you will see a set of concrete stairs on the right side of the river. This is an easy out for two people to carry the kayak up the stairs and ramp and plenty of parking, but could be difficult with a small child or a single.

This trip is a slow quiet and meandering paddle with a few medium size rapids but very easy overall. We really enjoy seeing Blue Herons standing on the river logs and then taking flight up river.
