Tangipahoa River in Louisiana

Trip Overview

Put in at Carpenters Landing, take out at La. Hwy. 22 Bridge.

We were on the river by 7 pm and off at 10 pm.

Awesome sunset and huge full moon to light the way, lots of sand beaches to camp or picnic. Quiet afternoon/night river paddle, the river is a typical south Louisiana paddle, ducks, water birds, no houses on river for the first 3/4 of the trip. Not many alligators this far up river.

Downed trees are the only obstructions, however the snags add to the beauty of the river. Early morning and late afternoon trips are best in the summer heat.

Take out river left just before the La. 22 bridge.

Hammond has everything you may need, hotels, food, supplies. Snacks and gas available at exit 42.

Directions:

Exit 42 off I-12 turn north, go to 4-way stop approx 1 mile turn right(east) on old Covington Hwy. When road turns left continue straight onto Carpenters Landing Rd. continue straight till dead end at the river. Set shuttle by going south at exit 42 turn left at traffic signal Hwy.22, go east till you cross the bridge over the river park on northeast side of bridge.
