Poropatank Creek in Virginia

Trip Overview

This creek runs east and west. If you paddle several miles to the east, you will hit the York River. If you paddle to the west, the creek becomes extremely narrow and you end up under the Rt 14 bridge, which goes into Shacklefords. There are several smaller creeks that branch off. Exporing them often provides glimpses of wildlife such as raccoon, eagles, blue herrons and other fauna. Once while following the creek to the 14 bridge I surprised a 10 point buck on the bank. It is also common to spot Bald Eagles, which nest nearby.

Accommodations:

There is a small family store on Davenport.

Directions:

From Rt. 17, take Davenport road and pass the post office. Take a right onto Tanyard Landing Road. The road ends at the boat ramp.
