Trip Overview

Schramm Park, NE to Missouri River

The Platte River below Schramm Park becomes more channelized as it reaches toward the Missouri River. The increasing current can create some interesting paddling. There is no white-water, but the paddler must be careful about areas around rip-rap and bridges that cross the river.

There are no public camp areas along the river, but courteous asking of some private owners allowed us to pitch a tent for the night. You have to take everything with you, as there is no water available along the way. This is best done in a two-day trip.

When you get to the Missouri, the 7-mile an hour current takes you right along. Watch out for the wing-dams and barge traffic. You can pull out at the boat ramp at Plattsmouth, NE on the west side of the river.

This is a trip for someone with paddling experience.
