Trip Overview

I ran this section of river with one other kayaker from West Point to the state park. We launched under the bridge in West Point along the road that connects Routes 518 and 45. The trip length is about 8 miles, with the last mile or so after the West Fork joins with the Middle Fork to form the main branch Little Beaver Creek.

With some abnormally wet weather for this time of year, the creek was running nicely at about 600 CFS/4 feet on the Grimm's Bridge gauge.

This section of creek is mostly secluded and lined by trees and rock bluffs. The first couple of miles are more interesting, with more gradient and bends. The only obstacle of note is a runnable concrete dam structure about 4 miles into the trip. There are 2 openings in the dam that are easily runnable at this level.
