Jordon River

Trip Overview

I really like the Jordon River. There is boat traffic in the lower part of the river, but once you get a mile or so upstream, the river is largely free of any other traffic. There is almost no current until you get close to the convergence of Bayou Bacon and what I believe is Catahoula Creek. I was on a paddle board, and the water become too shallow to continue. You could keep going in a kayak. There is a noticeable current here. I even took the fin off my board to try and keep going, but after a few hundred yards I had to give up. I tried to go into Bayou Bacon, but there are a number of downed trees and the place generally looks like fantasty land for snakes. This is a great paddle, with numerous birds and peaceful river scenes. The people you do encounter on the river are all very nice, and mostly sitting in the water drinking beer and relaxing.
