Explore the magic of Iceland and the raw wilderness of Greenland on this wild and remote expedition. Discover both regions by kayak, on foot and from the simple comfort of ‘base camp,’ a 70-foot sailboat. The yacht provides the best option to access remote bays and fjords in which to launch kayaks and explore areas few have visited. Your adventures in Iceland center around the north-west coast, just south of the Arctic circle, a land of jagged peaks, wildlife and isolation. Crossing the Denmark Strait takes you to eastern Greenland, an area of spectacular scenery, where mountains rise from the sea and active glaciers discharge their icy floes into remote fjords. Wildlife viewing is superb and may include the mighty polar bear, whales, seals, arctic fox and a huge variety of birds.
This 12 day trip starts in Ísafjörður, on the north-west coast of Iceland. You'll sail further north to Hornstrandir Nature Reserve to experience fantastic wildlife viewing and very scenic paddles and hikes. You'll cross the Denmark Strait in a sturdy yacht and arrive into Greenland on day 3 or 4 of the itinerary (depending on weather). Explorations in Greenland include the amazing Kangerlugssuaq Fjord where you'll typically spend three days, anchoring in sheltered waters and launching our kayaks from the boat to explore the surrounds. You’ll also enjoy some wonderful hiking and visit an abandoned Inuit settlement. Venturing further south, you’ll enter Nigertuluk Fjord, with its two spectacular calving glaciers, a sandy beach and a tranquil mountain lake. All in all, this is a fantastic playground for hiking, kayaking and having fun on stand up paddle boards! The last few days of the trip will be spent discovering the wilderness of Kangertigtivatsiaq Fjord and the remote and little-explored territory of Depot Sound. This fantastic adventure ends in the small village of Kulusuk where paddlers can return to Iceland on a flight to Reykjavik.
