Trip Overview

Heron Lake State Park is QUIET! Motorized boats may not go over trolling speed and so there are no jet skis, no water skiers and no vroom vroom motors and wakes.

Heron has gorgeous views of mesas to the west, high peaks to the north and the dramatic Brazos Cliffs to the east. There are beautiful camp sites ....many close enough to the water that you can just keep your boat on the beach. Wonderful sunrises and sunsets. The park even has a brochure of suggested paddle trips.

This is a large lake.....it can be smooth and calm....but can change to windy and white-capped in moments. Know your skill-level and keep an eye on the weather
