After running this with some friends a few days ago, I decided that it would defiantly be easy enough for my daughter, so we loaded up a couple yaks and headed down to the starting point and had nice fun trip down this section of the shiawassee. Saw the same heron (I think that's what it was) and we had a friendly duck escort for about half the trip. This second run was even easier as I now knew what lines to take to that we weren't constantly getting bottomed on shallows, so we only needed to climb out of of the kayaks less then a hand full of times.
There is one small portage over a very small log jam just before Torrey Rd. I think if I got enough speed I might have been able to get far enough that I could have shimmied over it.
