Trip Overview

Creek level was 3.4 feet according to the USGS monitoring station at 348/125. The put-in just north of the Serpent Mound entrance has just recently been improved and provided easy access to the creek. Total duration was 16.5 miles and took 6.5 hours with a minimal amount of stops. Take out was the public access just south of Jacktown hill.

Safety Notes

The bridge at Old 32 had a substantial amount of drift accumulated across the face of the concrete pillars providing only one opening about 5 feet wide to navigate through. This opening also has a submerged log just below the surface. Use caution.

Gear Notes

12' Wilderness System Tarpon 120 kayaks.

Conditions

Water temp on the upper half of the trip was about 59F and warmed to 61F further down stream later in the day. Water was slightly stained but clearing from rains prior in the week.

Portage Notes

Just before the bridge at Marble Furnace the main creek channel on river right had a large stump directly in the channel and would have been difficult to avoid at the water level and flow.
