Trip Overview

Long Lake/Raquette River

Started out from The middle of Long Lake late afternoon on Saturday and paddled to one of the Adirondak Shelters along the edge of the lake. The bugs were terrible, but the lake was calm and not much motorboat traffic. The next morning padded to the tip of the lake and then onto the Raquette River. Paddled to the take out just above the falls. There is a 1.25 mile portage around the falls that was a a fair amount of work for someone like me who is not in the best of shape. Great swimming area at the putin below the falls. Paddled further down the river and stayed in one of the Adirondak shelters along the river,(bugs were still terrible) great view of the sunset. Spent the day Monday hiking on the trails surround the area. Tuesday paddled further down the river to the next takeout. A nice trip that could easily be done in two days if you wan to push it.
