7 Arches, Portsalon

A self-supported trip created by Girlindancer

Trip Overview

Five of us kayaked in a variety of sit ins and sit ons, two were very experienced. Started at north Ballymastocker beach, headed north to the Seven Arches. We had done this before in a northerly wind and swell but didn’t get further than the top of the island with a foot bridge to Gort Losk that time When you pass the pier at Portsalon you will start to find lots of caves and depending on the tide, little beaches at foot of rocks and cliffs. Sea was calm so easily reached this in less than an hour. The seven arches caves are not easy to spot from the sea so bearing in mind that they are about half way from Gort Losk island to the next point, I would recommend exploring from here . The seven arches beach is accessed via a cave that seems to go south. There is a cathedral-like cave inside with several sea arches that lead back to the beach.
