Woronoco Old Strathmore Mill Putin

Description

Cross the metal bridge and go past the mill neighborhood to the back side of the old descript mill and there will be parking for six cars and a 50 yard path from the parking area to the put in which are some large flatwater pools below the powerhouse of the dams above.

This is a class an easy class 1,2 quickwater run. There are only two minimally difficult class two rapid about half way down the run as you approach and exit the mass pike bridge an impressive view from below. There will be several more easy class two rapids as you approach the take out at whitney park and lots of class 1 and quick water interspersed. Rt twenty and other roads are almost always near by but it can have a very remote feel in others. The begining to the mass pike is especially scenic.

The put in to whitney field is about six miles and can be run down to about 300 cfs without to much scrappng 600 to 1200 is really nice, anything above 1200 and many of the feature may flood out.

At low water or if you are a beginner you should take out at the first open grassy area at whitney field with more water there are three ledges on the way to the bridges in down town westfield that have surfable waves at the right levels probably above 1000 cfs. Rapids under the bridge can also be run but can be challenging and the parking becomes annoying. The sneak route on the bridge is river right as far as you can go.
