Spicer Reservoir

Bear Valley, US

Description

This is a unique boat-in camping destination. The back of the lake is a 2-hr paddle in where there are campsites. The lake level varies greatly, and higher lake levels are better and provide easier access to campsites. This narrow channel to the back of the lake can be a wind hazard. Plan to paddle in and out in the mornings and check wind conditions. It is a bit risky as a day paddle due to the wind risk. The lake offers unusual "ghost forests" of bleached trees not cut when the lake was expanded. Beautiful views of granite peaks and ridges abound.
