Description
Park at Rocester Village Hall car park drag Kayak across the playing field to the footpath that runs alongside the Churnet. Put in under the road bridge or just a little further up. Paddle first 0.5km past JCB lakes lovely open river paddling. After JCB it gets wilder and harder multiple sections of fast moving water and lots of trees with some nasty strainers. I found a couple of portages are required in places going up river. Paddle to the road bridge at Denstone/Quixhill and turn around for a 6km round trip paddle. Beware coming back down the current is quite strong in places and the fallen trees create quite a problem. I portaged large sections on the return journey. Facilities are good there's a pub in Rocester and Denstone and a farm shop with a cafe in Denstone. There is a public toilet at the car park in Rocester. Car parking is free.Location & Directions
