Canoe/kayak slide launch (sort of) added in 2023. Information is at

The river runs low during summer months. I have read that the best times for paddling are when the river gauge at Remington reads between three and five feet. I paddled with some minor issues on depth when the gauge was at 2.8. The gauge is at

I was there for fishing more than paddling. The fishing is good for smallmouth bass and I observed a good number of large catfish and some carp. The next public access downstream is five mile to Kelly’s Ford. I have not paddled that stretch due to my lack of experience with rapids.
The launch requires a downhill carry on a switchback-style well made trail. I use my kayak cart. Downhill seems to be easier than uphill. I have seen people hand-carry their kayak. It is not the easiest nor the hardest. The slide does not appear to reach the water unless it at above a safe paddle flow. But, it helps get you down to what is a dry bank during warmer months. The river is narrow here and warm weather brings a good amount of swimming and fishing.
