Description

Put in just above the wier and paddle up river. Paddling is OK water is quite calm, still and deep initially however the further you get the shallower the water gets and the faster moving it becomes. Trees are a constant problem with some seriously big trees blocking the river most are passable (just!) However at times of high rainfall or in the faster flowing sections they can form some rather nasty strainers which must be avoided. It's wild and rough paddling, but the woodland on the banks is beautiful, and you do feel really isolated and in the middle of nowhere as you pass through the bottom of Hawksmoor nature reserve. Parking is free and the put in is really good. There is a pub in Oakamoor but it doesn't do food.
