Description

Location: Land Between the Lakes, Stewart County, Tennessee, Road 214 GPS: N 36 36’ 48.6” W 87 54’ 25.53” Directions to Access Point: Beginning on Highway 79 in Dover, Tennessee, turn north on the Woodlands Trace National Scenic Byway; turn right on Road 214. Amenities: Basic Camping Area – No defined campsites, fire rings and/or grills, picnic tables, vault toilets, trash removal, mowed areas and a boat ramp. Basic Camping Permit required. Parking: 4 gravel spaces Restrictions: None Safety: Wear your life jacket. Know your skills and limits. Wind and weather can create dangerous conditions. Let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return. For more information visit: landbewteenthelakes.us/ watertrails/ Plan to “Pack it in; pack it out!” South from Neville Bay Camping Area 4.2 miles south on the water trail to the Nolin Landing access point. Safety: Be aware of the wind and weather forecast. Once you leave the large bay, you will be traveling directly alongside the navigation channel. This navigation channel is used by barges and other large vessels that can create large, dangerous wakes that can easily capsize a canoe or kayak. These large vessels are restricted in their ability to maneuver and they travel much faster than they appear. Time Allotment: 2 hours, 15 minutes Trail Description: The trail takes you to the head of Neville Bay and then along the opposite shoreline, out of Neville Bay, through the small bay at Fox Hollow and south along the shoreline of Lake Barkley to the Nolin Landing access point. Wildlife Viewing: As you travel to the head of the bay, there is great opportunity for wildlife viewing. You will see water fowl and potential beavers. The time to see beavers will be close to sunset as they start to wake up for their nightly activities. During the day, you can see beaver signs. Look along the shorelines for pointy stumps and chew marks. Neville Bay is great for fall color viewing mid-October through the beginning of November. Cultural Features: The Neville Bay area was once the Neville Creek community which included two churches and a school. Fox Hollow was once home to a small community of farmers starting in the 19 century. Captain Phillip Nolin ran a ferry across the Cumberland River at this point in the 19th century. The area that was once his farm is visible on the west side of the route. Natural Features: Fishing Information: North from Neville Bay Camping Area 2.8 miles north on the water trail to the Acree Creek access point. Safety: Be aware of the wind and weather forecast. Once you leave the large bay, you will be traveling directly alongside the navigation channel.
