Description
Goose Pasture campground is a wonderful little free campground.
Located one of the prettiest spots on the river. Very easy to put in.
Beautiful scenery, birding (Egrets, Ibis, Heron, Eagles, Hawks,
Cormorants), alligators so don't put dogs in the boat!!!! but they don't
bother people. They just want to sunbath in peace. Up stream is the
easiest and the current brings you back home when you turn around.
Downstream is very pretty but easy to get lost with so many side
channels so pay attention to turns, heavier water flows as clues, bring a
phone map? The kiosk before the camp is a spot to stop and look at sinkhokes. No fresh water
on site so bring plenty of water. Outhouses are cleaned every week. On
some weekends the local families sometimes come out. Can be loud but
friendly folks, good people, sing songs with the kids into the evening.
Weekdays you may be the only one there. Whipoorwills sing in the evening
and the moss hangs beautifully from the trees. Supposed to be a 10 day
camp limit.
Directions: 98/30 turn north onto Powell Hammock! (not the non existant road google wants). In a couple miles turn left on Goose Pasture. Kiosk on the left is sinkholes area you are almost there. Last mile can be washboard rough but flat, just keep going slow. The road goes straight into the camp.
